Autumn Planning Meeting 14/10/2008

Projects

ParkLife: ParkLife is hurtlin' on like a pack of hell dogs, with three produced and three more in pre-production. Decided it would be a good idea for the producer of each installment to put up a short debrief post here on the discussion board, describing roughly the process they adopted, logistical hurdles and how they could be overcome and general useful information and contacts for those producing future intsallments. It's all about payin' it forward! (The sentiment, not the film, there's no need to relive that).

Dance Puppets Dance!: A short film specifically for Matt Owen's myriad freaky deaky puppets! Self Collective's Writers' Circle are currently collaborating on the script and aim to complete a shooting draft in time for New Year after which pre-production will commence! If you are interested in any aspect of this project hit me on corrieburton@gmail.com

Events

ParkLife Screening:
Working date Nov 6th this year. A screening of all the ParkLife's thus far twinned with a general planning meeting for other collective projects (note that this is for collective, not individual projects, see definition on http://www.selfcollective.org/ toward the bottom of the page) e.g. another 48 hour project akin to this year's Sleepless in Peckham.

SelfCollective Christmas Party!: Currently scheduled for December 5th. A screening of this year's work and a ruddy great knees up to boot! Currently looking for interesting local venues with projecting facilities, preferably free or dirt cheap. If you have any suggestions, or even better wanna help out, hit me on corrieburton@gmail.com

Speakers Sessions/Skill shares:It appears SELFC has connections to a fair few people in t'industry who might be prepared to give a talk, instructional or partake of an informal Q & A sesh to aid us in our myriad endeavours and of this naturally we approve. Only problem being we shouldn't wish to bother said industry people if we cannot guarantee attendance in some reasonable measure. And guaranteeing attendance problematic at the best of times. Erego, should you be interested in attending/organising such activities please let us know so we could ascertain if this is a thing worth pursuing.

Other Business:

Formation of a P&P/Rep Group:
Selfc has actually been asked to attend a number of local events (e.g. Lewisham's Peoples Day, Elefest) to give us the chance to represent ourselves in the community. We've had to decline a lot of these so far due to there being not enough people free and/or willing on the given days. What is a cryin' shame as we are missin' a trick to find new members, discover opportunities and generally spread the love. Thereby we propose the formation of a P&P group who consider themselves the approachable sort to attend said events and 'represent'. Email Witchger on the subject at selfcollective@gmail.com

That be all for now. Laters!

Dear SELF Collective,

My name is Anna Tzini and I am Programme coordinator of PLATFORMA Video Festival (www.platformavideo.eu).

Let me tell you a few things about PLATFORMA first. It is an annual video festival located in Athens, Greece. It hosts more than 150 films from independent film makers (mainly using video and new media as their means of expression), and several tributes to foreign film festivals and creators. There are also a number of parallel events such as seminars, workshops, lectures and of course parties.

This year we thought we'd host a section dedicated to young artists who collaborate in order to get their work out there.

Directors, writers, actors who help each other out (one directs, the other shoots, a third one edits etc) in each ones films.

We want to show how important it is for young creators to stand by each other, and how that can benefit their work in terms of quality, ideas, and publicity.

We would like to see some of your video/film work in order to include it to our programme. We would love it if you could attend our festival and we will try to help with your travel and accommodation expenses as much as we can, depending on our funding which is still pending. You will of course be given free accreditation to all the festivals events and venues for all the days of the festival.

We would be very happy if you were interested in our proposal of cooperation for our next festival edition (Platforma Video 8, 7-10/11/2008).

Let me know so we can proceed with the arrangements.

Best regards,

Anna Tzini
